RIP Dan Wheldon

Posted: October 16, 2011 by Matt Ruda in Uncategorized

Normally on a Sunday I would be writing some article making witty jabs at some hot-topic from the GP. However, in light of what just happened in Las Vegas that seems neither prudent nor appropriate. I can’t comment on Dan’s racing ability, his life, or anything about him really. I’m not an Indy fan for many reasons, safety being one of them. I honestly never heard of Wheldon until today. But he was a racer, a man who accepted the risks of his sport but did it anyway so those who dare not attempt such feats could sit back, relax, and forget about life for a few hours. That’s something that transcends nationality or your personal choice of racing series.

The safety issues with Indy are something I’ll cover eventually, but now’s not the time. For now, remember Dan Wheldon. Keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. That is all.

Can’t remember such a fuss being made when Tomizawa died last year.

    Nonetheless, R.I.P. Dan Wheldon.
